They are stepping into a dangerous wager of love.
Netflix series Scandal has confirmed its release date for September 18, and has unveiled its teaser poster and teaser trailer.
Set in the Joseon era, Scandal tells the story of Lady Cho: a woman of such extraordinary talent she cannot be contained by the limits placed on women of her time.
Jo Won: Joseon’s most notorious lover, as they play a bold and dangerous game of love. Also caught in the middle is Hee Yeon.
Hee Yeon: a woman who becomes entangled in their wager.
The series is a modern reinterpretation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ 1782 French novel Dangerous Liaisons, reimagined and set in the Joseon Dynasty. Directed by Jung Ji Woo, known for building his own distinctive artistic world through films such as A Muse and The Vanished, the drama has already drawn immense anticipation, with powerhouse leads Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana.
Director Jung Ji Woo shared:
"I didn’t want a simple melodrama. I built the story around protagonists who grapple with the modern question: ‘Who am I?’"
The teaser poster captures Lady Cho, Jo Won, and Hee Yeon, all caught up in this secret, tempting wager, in a composition as elegant as a painting.
Son Ye Jin plays Lady Cho, seated in a rich inner chamber framed by fully bloomed, vivid red flowers. She carries the poised, dignified appearance of a nobleman’s wife yet beneath it, her eyes reveal hidden, burning desire.
Ji Chang Wook transforms into Jo Won, Joseon’s ultimate seducer. Pictured surrounded by women in a scene evoking traditional beauty paintings, he exudes easy charm and unshakable confidence, perfectly hinting at his character’s personality.
Nana portrays Hee Yeon, standing amid cascading plum blossoms with a sorrowful, haunting expression that immediately draws the eye. Hee-yeon unwittingly becomes the prize of the wager and a central point of tension is what choice she will ultimately make while trapped in the two people’s dangerous game.
The teaser trailer opens with the start of this love affair that threatens to shake the noble neighborhood of Bukchon. Lady Cho proposes the wager with a gaze that seems to see right through everything; Jo Won accepts it with eyes full of desire; and Hee Yeon watches on, visibly afraid, their faces cut together to foreshadow the tangled fate that binds all three.
As Jo Won approaches Hee Yeon in order to win the bet, and Lady Cho watches them from the sidelines, a subtle, charged tension builds between all three. Audiences are already watching closely to see how this dangerous game will end and what kind of spellbinding Scandal Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana will bring to life.
The 8-episode series Scandal premieres worldwide on September 18.
